As from this year we have been using Dropbox  for both educational and administrative purposes.  Saving files in the Dropbox has made it easier and safer to access them as well as share them with students and teachers.

Classdojo!
An on-line app for your classroom!

Classdojo is an online app that allows better organization and management of the order in the classroom. It is based on a system of rewards and penalties for certain behaviors that are determined by the teacher. It is a very good tool for students to encourage their participation and good behavior. At the same time, it provides the possibility of updating parents since they can visit the webspace area inside the app via a code provided by the teacher.

Here are two excellent videos explaining what co-teaching is, how it works and what are the different models
of Co-Teaching.

Co-Teaching

General and Special Educators Working Together

Co-teaching is two or more people sharing responsibility for teaching some or all of the students assigned to a classroom. It involves the distribution of responsibility among people for planning, instruction, and evaluation for a classroom of students. Another way of saying this is that co-teaching is a fun way for students to learn from two or more people who may have different ways of thinking or teaching.
Some people say that co-teaching is a creative way to connect with and support others to help all children learn. Others say that co-teaching is a way to make schools more effective. Co-teaching can be likened to a marriage. Partners must establish trust, develop and work on communication, share the chores, celebrate, work together creatively to overcome the inevitable challenges and problems, and anticipate conflict and handle it in a constructive way (Cushman, 2013).
Many teachers in our school are familiar with co-teaching strategies introduced during professional development workshops for use when working with special education colleagues in the classroom.

Pirates

Since returning from our Easter break  Middlethorpe pupils have become pirates!

We have been having lots of fun learning many new skills through our pirate theme. we have used visual stimuli such as
and
to create hooks in to learning.

Could you do something similar in your classroom?

Wake up shake up - ICT and a healthy mind

When you visited England you all saw our 'wake up shake up' daily routine.
Here is the method behind the madness:

After taking part the children will approach their class work re-energised and in a ‘state of readiness to learn’.

Impact

Where it has been taking place regularly over a long and sustained period of time, schools have reported an impact in the following areas:-
  • Enjoyment of school life and a sense of well-being (staff too!)
  • Improved self-esteem impacting on other curriculum areas: ‘success breeds success’
  • Improved co-ordination (gross motor skills then impacting on fine motor skills)
  • Improved rhythm and timing ( this has helped with music and dance lessons)
  • Improved concentration and application to tasks immediately after the brief exercise session
  • Increased stamina
  • Improved behaviour (“when done at the end of lunchtime, playground squabbles are forgotten and afternoon class is much better”)
  • Improved hydration (children get thirsty and WANT to drink more)

Dough Disco - ICT and fine motor skills

For those working with children in the Early Years or for children with fine motor difficulties. You must watch this. Every child in my class has a small pot of inexpensive or homemade dough. They have fun warming up their hand muscles on a daily basis to improve fine motor skills.  Put on the music and have fun. Once you know the moves you can 'rock out' to other music whilst improving hand muscles ready for writing.
